| PRIMARY REVIEW FINDINGS |

The Guardian, Daily Mail and The Times have covered findings from the ongoing Primary Review, being led by Cambridge University. The Guardian has revealed that parents are increasingly seeking alternative forms of education, such as home schooling or Steiner schools, to free their children from the testing regimes imposed in the state sector. This view has also been echoed in The Times, which states that, according to the review, English children are tested longer, harder and younger than anywhere else in the world. Academics said that pupils are put through 'pervasive' assessment; before they even start secondary school children face two sets of national tests (at 7 and 11).The Daily Mail has focused on findings from the review which suggest that children find school 'stressful' because they are taught maths and English at the age of four. The researchers say children probably start school too young. One report for the review said: "The assumption that an early school starting age is beneficial for children's later attainment is not well supported in the research and therefore remains open to question."
