Dear Readers:
We trust you have found access to ECRP useful and satisfying. As we approach the end of our 10th year, we continue to face a serious funding crisis. We must raise at least $30,000.00 by the end of this year in order to complete the forthcoming issues already being edited and translated. We are pleased to announce that an anonymous ECRP supporter has offered to match any contributions made before the end of 2008.
Our goal in starting the journal was to help improve practice in the field by facilitating communication among practitioners and researchers worldwide who are devoted to the well-being of young children. The feedback we receive from readers indicates that ECRP now has a unique niche in our field. It provides a special location where scholars, researchers, and practitioners can learn from one another. Based on current experience, we can expect the ECRP Web site to receive more than 1 million visits again this year.
ECRP is the only open access peer-reviewed online journal in our field that is fully bilingual in English and Spanish. Each year it welcomes papers submitted by early childhood scholars and educators in the United States, Central and South America, and many other areas of the world. Very soon we expect to further broaden our international reach by offering a Chinese version of the journal. We are very pleased to make the journal available to so many colleagues around the world. This is only possible because access is free, and the journal can continue only with your support.
As an online journal, ECRP has been innovative in the use of graphics, video, sound, hypertext links, databases, and searching capabilities to inform practice in our changing world. We began the journal in 1999 with federal funds, and the transition to a bilingual format was supported by the Bernard van Leer Foundation in 2006. Since federal support ended in 2003, the journal has been supported by foundations, corporate sponsors, and individual contributions.
We hope you will help us continue this worthwhile endeavor. Tax-deductible contributions to ECRP are managed by the University of Illinois Foundation (UIF), and all contributions will be matched by an anonymous donor. Please make your contribution today!

Early Childhood Research & Practice (ECRP), a peer-reviewed electronic journal sponsored by the Early Childhood and Parenting (ECAP) Collaborative at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, covers topics related to the development, care, and education of children from birth to approximately age 8. ECRP emphasizes articles reporting on practice-related research and development, and on issues related to practice, parent participation, and policy. ECRP also includes articles and essays that present opinions and reflections, and letters to the editor. Beginning with the Spring 2004 issue (Vol. 6, No. 1), ECRP is a fully bilingual (English and Spanish) journal.
